Los Angeles Pest Control at a glance

Los Angeles Pest Control is a 24/7 call line for pest control across Los Angeles and Los Angeles County. A technician treats Argentine ants, pocket gophers, roof rats, drywood and subterranean termites, roaches, bed bugs, spiders, wasps, fleas and mosquitoes. A visit is booked the same day when a technician is free, and the price is confirmed on site before work starts.

Pests in Los Angeles follow water. Irrigation turns a dry hillside garden into a place where Argentine ants and pocket gophers do well all year, a long rainless summer sends ants looking for a faucet indoors, and a palm crown or a lemon tree next to the roof gives roof rats a way into the attic. In the dry wood of an old house, drywood termites need no soil contact at all.

The work runs from downtown apartment blocks and restaurant kitchens through Craftsman bungalows in Highland Park and Pasadena to houses along the canyon edge in Hollywood and Studio City. Why Los Angeles Pest Control

    Phones answered 24/7

Rats scratching in an attic at 2 a.m. or a wasp nest over the front door will not wait for office hours. Call any time and a person picks up.

Same day when a technician is free

A visit is booked for the same day whenever a technician is free near you. When none is, you hear that on the call, not an invented arrival time.

    Price confirmed on site

The technician looks at the problem first, explains what is needed and gives the price before any work starts. If the quote does not suit you, you can decline the work.

    Local pests, local timing

Ant baiting in winter, termite swarms after the first autumn rain, rats in palms and citrus: the advice follows how pests behave in this climate.

    Termite work in three forms

Inspection reports, local treatment and whole-structure fumigation are different jobs. California licenses fumigation as its own branch, and you are told which one your house needs.

    Honest about wildlife

Sealing gaps in a roofline or crawl space is structure work. Coyotes, raccoons and skunks are handled by wildlife agencies, and you are pointed to the right one.

    How it works

From phone call to fixed, in four steps

    1. Call or send a request

Call (855) 974-4733 for anything urgent, or use the form for something that can wait a day. Say what you saw, where in the house or yard, and your ZIP code.

    2. A visit is booked

If a technician is free, the visit is booked for the same day. Otherwise you get the next opening that suits you, with no promise of a time that cannot be kept.

    3. Inspection and price on site

The technician identifies the pest, finds where it is getting in or nesting, and explains the options. The price is confirmed on site, before any work starts.

    4. Targeted treatment or sealing

Treatment goes where the pest lives and travels: bait along an ant trail, traps in a gopher run, sealing at a roofline gap, or a termite plan sized to the infestation.

    5. Follow-up advice

You hear what to change around the property, such as irrigation, plants touching the walls or stored firewood, and when to call back if activity continues.

What pests are most common in Los Angeles?

The pests that define Los Angeles are Argentine ants, pocket gophers, roof rats and drywood termites, followed by roaches and bed bugs in dense multi-unit buildings. Most of them are tied to irrigation, mild weather and the age of the housing, not to one neighborhood.

Many of these pests leave early signs. Catching them at that point usually means a smaller, simpler job, and it helps to describe the sign when you call.

    • A glossy line of tiny brown ants on a counter or around a sink in July: Argentine ants looking for water.
    • Crescent or horseshoe mounds of loose soil in a lawn or flower bed: pocket gophers.
    • Scratching in the attic at dusk, gnawed citrus or avocados still on the tree: roof rats.
    • Tiny six-sided pellets under attic framing or fascia, or winged insects on a windowsill: drywood termites.
    • Roaches in a kitchen or a restaurant back corridor: cockroach control or commercial pest control.
    • Bites or small stains on a mattress in a rented unit: bed bug treatment.

How do the dry season, Santa Ana winds and winter rain affect pests in Los Angeles?

Los Angeles has a long dry season, Santa Ana winds from October to March and a short wet winter. July and August each average under 0.05 inch of rain, so ants look for water indoors, while storms between November and April push them in out of the wet.

The city's official weather station sits near downtown, on the south side of Dodger Stadium, and the National Weather Service normals for 1991 to 2020 put July and August under 0.05 inch of rain each. Irrigated yards are the only reliably wet places in that stretch, and pests move toward them.

Use the table as a rough guide, then open the month-by-month pest calendar. Timing shifts from year to year, so treat each line as a tendency, not a date.

Spring (Mar to May)Last of the Santa Ana season; the storm window ends and the dry season beginsSubterranean termite swarms can occur, especially in southern California; ants and gophers active in irrigated yards, with ant numbers rising within weeks of irrigation

How do hillsides, canyon edges and older homes change pest problems in Los Angeles?

Where you live changes what you see. Hillside gardens with drip lines suit gophers and ants, canyon-edge streets bring wildlife that sealing can only keep out of the structure, and older wood-framed houses give drywood termites dry framing to live in.

Silver Lake and Echo Park are dense hillside neighborhoods with steep slopes and narrow streets, and irrigated slopes keep soil workable for gophers. Older houses in Highland Park-Garvanza, the largest historic district in the city with about 2,500 structures, and in Pasadena's Bungalow Heaven, which has more than 800 homes from 1900 to 1930, have decades of attic and fascia wood that termites can reach.

In the Hollywood Hills and the Verdugo Mountains, coyotes, skunks, raccoons and opossums share streets with people. A technician can seal gaps in the building. The animals themselves are a matter for wildlife agencies, covered in the guide on who to call for coyotes and raccoons.

Which pest problems are handled by a technician and which by a district or agency?

A technician handles ants, roaches, rodents, termites and sealing work on a building. Vector control districts treat public-health pests such as mosquitoes in public water, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife governs coyotes, raccoons and skunks. Knowing the split saves a wasted call.

The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District covers 37 cities and parts of the unincorporated county, including the City of Los Angeles, and treats mosquitoes, midges and black flies for free. It does not control rodents. Rodent questions there go to the Los Angeles County Vector Management Program at (626) 430-5450. Which district serves your address is covered in the vector control district guide.

For wildlife, California Department of Fish and Wildlife advice is to remove food, water and shelter, use tight-fitting lids and lock pet doors at night. Relocating nuisance raccoons and skunks is illegal. Los Angeles Pest Control does not trap, remove or relocate any wildlife; the work is limited to sealing entry points on the structure.

Do I need fumigation, local treatment or just an inspection for termites?

It depends on what the inspection finds. A limited drywood infestation can sometimes be handled by replacing wood or treating the spot, while a widespread one may call for whole-structure fumigation, which California licenses as its own branch. An inspection report comes first.

UC Integrated Pest Management notes that drywood termites are hard to detect and rarely seen until they swarm, so the sign is usually pellets: small hexagonal droppings pushed out of kickout holes. A technician looks at attic framing, rafters, fascia and exposed trim, then explains the options.

California's Structural Pest Control Board licenses structural pest work in three branches: Branch 1 fumigation, Branch 2 general pest and Branch 3 termite. Start with a termite inspection if you are buying or selling, and read about fumigation and subterranean termites before you decide. The drywood versus subterranean guide compares them.

    Typical job
Illustration: Typical call: Argentine ants at the kitchen sink in Valley Village in July

Typical call: Argentine ants at the kitchen sink in Valley Village in July

    What homeowners notice
After weeks without rain, a steady line of small brown ants appears around a kitchen faucet and a bathroom drain. Outside, a well-watered bed of shrubs touches the stucco beside the back door.
    What we do
The technician follows the trail to the entry point, places bait stations along the ant route outside and near the sink, and recommends trimming the plants that touch the wall and checking how far the irrigation reaches.
    What to expect
The homeowner leaves with a plan to bait, trim and watch the trail, and knows that supercolonies can rebuild while irrigation continues.

    Typical job
Illustration: Typical call: crescent mounds in a Silver Lake hillside garden

Typical call: crescent mounds in a Silver Lake hillside garden

    What homeowners notice
Fresh crescent-shaped mounds of loose soil show up across an irrigated terrace and a flower bed on a steep lot, and a few plants have wilted where roots were cut underground.
    What we do
The technician probes the soil to find the main burrow, sets traps in the run, and explains that irrigated slopes keep soil workable so mounds can return at any time of year.
    What to expect
A follow-up visit is arranged to check the traps and any new mounds, as is usual for gopher work, and the homeowner is told what to watch for in between.

    Typical job
Illustration: Typical call: termite pellets under the eaves of a Highland Park Craftsman

Typical call: termite pellets under the eaves of a Highland Park Craftsman

    What homeowners notice
Small six-sided pellets collect on a windowsill and under a fascia board on an older bungalow, and a few winged insects were seen near a window in late summer.
    What we do
The technician checks the attic framing, rafters, fascia and exposed trim for kickout holes, confirms the pellets as drywood termite droppings, and explains the difference between replacing wood, local treatment and whole-structure fumigation.
    What to expect
The homeowner chooses a next step with the findings in hand, and the written inspection details show where activity was found.

    FAQ

    Frequently asked questions

Can I call Los Angeles Pest Control at night or on a weekend?

Yes. Phones are answered 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays. A visit is booked the same day when a technician is free; if none is, you hear the next opening during the call.

How quickly can a technician come to my home in Los Angeles?

Same day when a technician is free, and sooner or later depending on where you are and how many calls are ahead. No arrival time is guaranteed on the phone, so the answer you get is the honest one.

Do I pay before I know the price?

No. The technician inspects first and the price is confirmed on site before any work starts. If the quote does not suit you, you can decline the treatment.

Why do I get ants in the kitchen in the middle of summer when it is dry?

Argentine ants look for water in hot dry weather, and a bathroom faucet, a drain or a pet bowl is the nearest supply. UC IPM says bait stations are the most effective control, and trimming plants that touch the building closes bridges.

Do you remove coyotes, raccoons or skunks?

No. Los Angeles Pest Control does not trap, remove or relocate wildlife. A technician can seal gaps in the structure so animals cannot get in. For the animals, call the California Department of Fish and Wildlife or Los Angeles County Animal Care.

Does a mosquito problem go to a vector control district or to a technician?

Both can matter. The district treats public mosquito sources and standing water, free in its service area, while a technician can help with your own yard. See the mosquito control page for what a visit covers.

    Is my area covered?

The call line covers the City of Los Angeles and 25 neighborhoods and cities within 25 km, from Santa Monica to Pasadena and Compton. The ZIP checker shows whether your ZIP is on the list.

Does the same technician handle fumigation and general pest work?

Not necessarily. California licenses fumigation, general pest and termite work in separate branches, so the company that visits is licensed for the branch that matches your job. You can ask for its license number before work starts.
